Lately I've seen people complaining (all over the web ) about random lock ups at start up with asus mobos and/or long boot up times.
I have the same problem with my p5n-e sli and I think it has to do with some kind of sh!tty M$ update. Till windows gets updated, in a fresh install, I don't have any kind of problem (I think), I just can't track it down and it's pissing me off.
By doing this I hope that you guys with the same problem share your experiences and together try to find an answer to this.

not sure if this is the same thing that is happening to you ,,, but,,,, I had a Nvidia4 chipset board,(machspeed) that started doing that after XP auto connected for an upgrade. i tracked it down to a security service running in the background that was conflicting with Windows Explorer. service pack 2 was of no help. and even Restoring to an earlier stable setup didn't help. I am sure there was a work around,, but i was not enough of a guru to fix it.
I know it was not hardware , because Kubuntu64 ran just fine.

Thanks man. I'll try not to update those 5 files and see what happens. If the problem continues I'm afraid I have to install vista one year early than I expected....
