Why does usb reset my pc

Inserting usb stick causes XP to restart windows repeatedly - how can this behaviour be controlled ie to allow windows to function and not reset the pc?

That's really not normal behaviour. My guess is that you have a physical fault on your motherboard or on your USB ports. Possibly it's just a driver issue, so before you start taking the machine apart, check to see that you have the correct (and latest) software drivers installed for your motherboard (or any USB expansion cards used to increase the number of USB ports).

Do you get the same result no matter which USB port you try?
