First time overclocking want to overclock Intel Core 2 Duo E6550

I just recently purchased an e6550 and ive never overclocked my proccesor before. I would like some help on how to go about overclocking it.

My current set up is:
e6550
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard
asus nvidia 7900 gs 256mb
2gb of cheap ddr2 memory

It might help if you told us what speed of RAM you were using...i.e. DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR2-1066...also read the stickies!

I have an E6550 Overclocked to 3.33 GHz on Intel stock cooler.

Running on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R with 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1066 PC2-8500 and an XFX XXX 8800 GTS 640 MB factory OCed to 600 core/950(1.900) mem

CPU runs at about 57 C which aint too bad

Okay, but how far can ya get with DDR2-800 RAM?

with ddr2 800 you can safely clock to 2.8 without overclocking your ram. To do this you'll have to clock your cpu fsb at 1600 (or 400 depending on how your bios lists the fsb) and your ram at the stock 800.

Hi Guys this is my verry first post on toms hardware also this is my verry first time overclocking any thing. i have a Intel Core 2 duo E6550 running at 2.33Ghz witch 2 gb of patriot ram running at 800Mhz what Could i clock the ram to and The Cpu With A stock cooler.And alsoi have a Ecs G31T-M Motherboard Pci Express and my ram curntly is running at 399.0Mhz FSBRAM 5:6 Dual Channe Thanks In Advance

I have no clue on a gigabyte board what the processor will do. but with an msi sli platinum with ddr2 800 i can only clock it to like 2.7 stably and im on liquid. i think i need a new board. but 2.8 should be possible.

with a Zalman CNPS8700NT Universal cpu cooler

devious420, I think alot of it depends on your motherboard OC capability meanly so get a better board by doing some research first this is what I do and my Asrock P45xe board can OC E6550 to 529 FSB timing or 3.7GHz core speed and over 2100MHz FSB total it cost me £50 so good for money right!
