What is amount of Process in WIN XP PRO

Ok here is the thing i have been seeing my system hang a little bit and when i checked it was running 50 process
so i did the following went to MSCONFIG.EXE and shut down programs that are running that i really don't need to use
on startup. it went down to 44 as of right now. So now i know that as many programs you install leads to that many
more process that it will show. Can i run this system with process less then 40 and what can i shut down that i don't
use that i can get my system running better. Any help would be gratefully thanks

yes, you can cut that WAY down. right after boot, I have 25 processes running. once I start working/gaming/etc, I dont go over 35. You are going to need to post what you have running on start up so we can tell you what you dont need.
