CeBIT 2008: DFI's High-End Under The Spotlight

Well known among overlockers, DFI showed its latest board built on a X48, nForce 790i (C73 + MCP55) and AMD 780 (RS780D +SB700). Here are well designed boards with two PCI 16x slots (except for the ADM card), digital power supply stage at 8 phase (which makes sure there isn't any voltage drop when the processor's in peak), capacitors using solid electrolyte and a Thermalright cooling system. In other words, we have the best components for overclocking. Read more

I've got the same board but not the same cooler. In looking at the pictures of the Thermalright it does look like it will fit. I went with the Scythe Ninja Plus and it fits nicely without having to remove the NB or SB sinks or the backplate either.

Good luck.

This is a brand new build so I haven't OC'd yet. I went with the e6850 for the clock speed just in case I don't OC. I never have but I want to try my hand at it. The Scythe fits in very nicely but the fan will only go on one of the four sides of the heatsink once it is mounted. Fortunately it blows right towards the case exhaust fan so it works out good. I haven't really put the Scythe to the test yet, so the jury is still out. So far though it looks like it will do the job.

Let me know if you go with the Thermalright and if it fits or not.

Cheers.

sounds like a plan !! for sure I will give you a buzz with the stats and you let me know too if you OC to see what temps you're getting on the idle and load state !!

Peace :)

@leefuji

I've tried a little overclocking and have the e6850 up to 3.6 with just a slight bump in voltage. My temps are pretty good with this HSF so far. CPU temp is only 20c at idle and 45c under load while doing an Orthos test. So things are looking pretty good so far. I'm not sure if I'm going to try to push it any further.

Cheers.

I've got the same RAM as you with the exception of the Tracer version.

Right now my timings are stock at 5-5-5-15 with the voltage at 1.90. I've got the CPU:RAM ratio at 4:5 so with a 400 FSB my RAM is running at 1000.

Stable so far, but I haven't run Orthos all that long yet. I think I might try to push it a little further too.

ther thermalright extreme will fit with no troubles, just remove the crazycool backplate. just make sure that your case will close. having a good airflow helps ^^

The Scythe can be mounted without removing the back plate. I ran an Orthos blended test (CPU and RAM) for 10 hours with an OC on the CPU (e6850) at 3.6 with 1.38v and the RAM at a 4:5 ratio with 2.0v (1000 mhz) and the test ran flawlessly. The point is that the highest my core temps got was 45c under load so I think the Scythe does a pretty decent job of cooling. It does all depend on how much you want to OC though.
