My GTX8800 has a DVI-I (dual link) female connector.

My monitor uses a DVI-D (dual link) male cable.

If I understand Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI correctly, I can stick the cable in the connector without a problem.

Am I correct?

Yes, almost all LCDs use a DVI-D plug for the Graphics cards' DVI-I sockets.

It's extremely rare for the reverse.
