Best HDD ~500Gb

Simple.
Whats the best hdd around 500Gb
Speed is most important.
Noise (or lack thereof) is second.

Dont want raptor/raid etc, just a 7200 sata
Was looking at Seagate 500GB 'ST3500630NS'
Use for gaming and vid/pic editing.
Any advice muchly appreciated as always

seagate 500gb 7200.10 (ST3500630AS)
instead of paying 150 for the st3500630ns you can buy this one for 120 which has the same performance.
i compared the two on newegg.com and couldn't find a difference in the two but in price and number of good reviews.
225 5star reviews for ST3500630AS compared to 14 5star reviews for ST3500630NS

i would go for the seagate 500gb 7200.10 (ST3500630AS)

The ST3500630NS is the Barracuda ES series drive (Enterprise level reliability - 1.2M Hrs MTBF).

The ST3500630AS is the plain Barracuda desktop series.

That's why the NS drive is more expensive. The only reason the NS drive has less 5 star reviews is because many fewer people buy it. It's actually a better drive (or it's rated to be anyway).

As long as you back your data up regularly, enterprise reliability is only good for high volume servers where downtime = loss of profit. Even then most servers support a hot swap. They both carry 5 years of warranty and the specs are the same
