How to remove write protection from pictures on hard drive

Hello I'm trying to copy pictures from my hard drive onto a 2gb flash and on some folders I am receiving a message: "Disk is write-protected. Remove Protection." Except the 'help' doesn't help. It has no instructions or even lists "write protection" in the index. What do I do? I've unchecked "read only" in preferences to no avail. Please help if you can, much appreciated.
