Hi,
> Where do I go for help?
Here is fine, you could also use:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate
Is there an error code?
Click start/run, type %windir%/windowsupdate.log and click ok. Scroll to the
bottom (most recent activity), see if you can find the event failure and
copy/paste that into a reply to this post.

Thanks Chuck
I now get an error message "KB89380v2 Setup Error - Access is denied -
Installation did not completely install.
It then re-booted and said "Installer not completely restored and may
not work" - sorry, not verbatim but to that effect.

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and remove it. Then try to install it
again.

From my initial response:
"Click start/run, type %windir%/windowsupdate.log and click ok. Scroll to
the
bottom (most recent activity), see if you can find the event failure and
copy/paste that into a reply to this post."

It is not in add/remove, Chuck. It rolls back everything and then
re-boots.

Hi,
Updates from the Windows Update Web site are not installed and an "Error
0x80070005: Access is denied" error message is logged to the Windows
Update.log file

Rick, once again you've made my day! Thanks.
I had bought a new, custom built, computer, and, for the first time
ever, had an OEM O/S installed. I was not aware they had not set
full permissions for me, the only user. I had to do Method 3 and
Method 4.
I missed the error code by re-booting after the failed install -
pressing stop would have shown it to me.
Many thanks for your help.
