I have a 250GB WD Passport 2.5 external drive. The casing and connector on it broke so I am trying to replace. I bought a regular 2.5 usb ide enclosure but it didn't fit. What type of 2.5 drive is this?

You should be able to tell by looking at it. If it's ATA, the data cable will be wide and flat, if SATA it will be smaller. The power cable connector on the ATA will be a molex, the white thick one

That's a SATA so you'll need a case with an internal SATA connector. It doesn't matter what the external connector is, the one that connects to the computer as long as the computer has the connections. Definitely want USB and eSATA is the fastest but you'll likely need a card for it. USB will let you connect to any computer
