It has?????

My question is more like where, apart from forums, did anyone get the idea that NVIDIA will be releasing a new series of graphics cards this year?

Sorry about the title but wanted to get your attention and demonstrate it’s easy to post a miss-leading post!

Cheers people

indeed...a yearly cycle. The g92 should be launching q4 2007. ^_^..a month or so before the crysis launch. Which would make sense considering how current dx10 cards really can't push it well. I'm waiting for that series to nab myself a complete new rig.

Yeh that is why I went with a £160 7950GX2. Actually performs better than the 8800gts 320mb, it was cheaper and that DX10 card probably wont be too good in DX10 games anyway.

With PCI-Express 2.0 coming out wouldn't the next step be something supporting it. Then you have Crysis and the holiday season, with Penryn coming out just adds to the mix. Its going to explode and I'm going to be right in the middle of it.

The 8xxx series is much like the original Geforce 256. Great card but really just an opener for DX10, 8xxx series will be old before you know it.

systemlord...you are following my path as well ^_^..

I've been holding off my new rig. But when penryn, x38, barcelona, g92 are released..I'm getting my new rig..A cooler master stacker with all the fan slots filled up (9 or 11 of them with 120mm fans..forgot if it was 9 or 11 slots). Water cooling...and lots of oc'ing...If the penryn launches are only the high end I might just nab a q6600 for temporary...until the mid range penryn processors come out to nab one of those. Or who knows...barcelona might actually come out and perform better considering it's a native quad core..It might work better for supreme commander and crysis considering core utilization..but we'll have to wait and see....

Gotta get a 26 inch widescreen flat panel too >_<..bah..a lil over 5 grand probably gone >_<.

Will PCI-E 1.1 MB be able to use PCI-E 2.0? or is it worth waiting?

The only good thing is most newer mobo's (mine included)can support Penryn but not PCI-E 2.0. Will G92 be able to run on PCI-E 1.1 I think yes, Nvidia isn't going to shoot themselfs in the arm. Right now I so need a new graphics card, but I know that I must bite the bullet and wait. I have already ordered a Enermax Infiniti PCI-E 2.0 ready PSU, even though it can only handle one PCI-E 2.0 card.

I know you'll be able to run pci 1.1 cards in a 2.0 environment. But once cards exceed the 1.1 maximum bandwith I don't think there would be a point in using a 2.0 card in 1.1. Don't get me wrong. It will probably work...But it will be bottle necked. The upside to the pcie 2.0 interface is the fact that the bandwith has been doubled from the 1.1's 2.5 GB to 5.0...the PCIE 2.0 interface also allows more energy to be transferred to the pci slot..so it can eliminate the need of a 4 pin molex connector for graphics cards...But IMO still would be safe to use it...but depends imo on what is recommended from the gfx card manufacturer.

But the answer...probably yes...cards the exceed the 2.5 gb limit should still work in 1.1 slots...but it wouldn't be very wise bottlenecking yourself like that. Better to upgrade...

But keep in mind atm that current cards don't surpass the 2.5 gb mark..but the g92 and r700 might just do that...or maybe the next generation ahead of them.

On Intel's site they don't write anything about that... Maybe it was just a rumour? It was pretty old (in technology terms)
