Hi,

I'm upgrading from a Radeon 9800 Pro AGP to a Sapphire Radeon x1950 Pro AGP. My system consists of a DFI Lan Party Motherboard, Pentium 4 2.6 Hyper-threaded CPU, 2X 512mb Kingston DDR Ram, and a new Ultra 700 Watt Power Supply w/40amps on the 12volt rail.

I've gone into the control panel hardware configuration and deleted the listing for the 9800 pro and 9800 pro secondary. Each time I received a message stating that I would have to restart for changes to take effect.

I then installed the new card connecting both power connectors on the card to the power supply. The case fans and hard drives spin, but no post beep. There's no signal to the monitor and no power to the USB keyboard. The computer starts-up fine when the 9800 is replaced.

Any thoughts?

The BIOS probably doesn't recognize it. Or it's a bad card.

Your card might be dead.
Its possible your mobo doesnt support agp 8x.
This is a strange one but it worked for me once when couldnt get a post with a new card. Locate the jumper on your mobo that resets the bios. Leave the new card in reset the bios then try and boot. Worked for me once. Only if I reset the bios with the jumper though. Funny thing is the bios hadnt been changed anyway.

It cant be a driver issue as it doesnt post. Drivers are loaded through the OS not in post.

It sounds alot like a dead card.

The motherboard does support 1,4 & 8x agp. Do you actually need to restart the machine after you removed the previous drivers? Said it needed to restart to take effect, but I only powered down and switched-out the cards. It does sound like either a bios issue (since it won't post) or a dead card. I'll try it in another machine too and see if I can get any better results...

Thats the best thing to do try the card in another machine. You dont have to restart the machine a shutdown is fine.
I recomend trying to reset the bios. Its just a matter of eliminating the possible causes.
Let us know how it goes.

ok, I tried one more time on the LanParty being very careful to un-install all traces of the previous video software. Again, no go. Then I tried it in another machine and it worked. So it's obviously a bios issue with the first machine. Would simply resetting the bios fix the problem or would it need to be updated?

The video card works, but now the computer with the x1950 is experiencing a sound stuttering issue in the game I tested it in. I’m researching this new issue and will try updating/resetting the bios on the first machine to see if I can get the card to work there.

Any thoughts on the sound issue?

Your best bet is update to the latest bios. That should work even better than reseting it. The sound could be driver problem. If its stuttering i dont think it would be a hardware problem.
