I'm going to overclock the processor to play some games (starcraft 2!!) but nothing too intensive. I was wondering if I should get the E6850 if it's ~$25 more. How much "real" difference would I get?

You will likely see real differences between the E6550, E6750, and the E6850 when doing OC's.

The reason is that the FSB of these chips is so high already, you will need very fast RAM to push the lower end chips to their max.

yea no doubt $25?? Either you know somewhere that has E6850's dirt cheap, where it at??? or your about to pay too much for an E6750. The E6750's are barely over $200 now. I can get one for about $210 with shipping.

Well the 1000/unit price is $183 for the E6750 and $266 for the E6850. So that comes to an $80 difference normally. Actually a $110 difference between the CPUs on NewEgg.

Not sure what the prices are on the CPUs you are looking at, but you are either looking at a very bad price on the E6750 or a very good price on the E6850 or some of both.

Unless you've found an extremely good deal on the E6850, I'd say look around a bit harder for a better price on the E6750. I kinda think under normal circumstances it's a better price/bang deal.

The E6850 is an overclocking champion reaching 4.0Ghz on air. The E6750 has not shared the same success as the E6850 in early reports, but if don't plan on pushing the cpu that far a E6750 will do fine to get you to 3.4Ghz.
