Hey guys

I'd really appreciate if some of you techies could find the time to check the system I am about to order and tell me if there is something wrong with it. I spent countless hours researching what i wanted and picking parts to then find out newegg dont ship in canada, so I had to re-do it all over. Was a lot of pain
Anyway, here's the system I planned on ordering, please tell me if there's something I should change

I don't want an ultra killer PC but I want a good one, I think I did pretty good so far but maybe some brands arent good, anyway please check and feedback me :)
I'm mostly building a PC to play windowed games, watch movies (output to our killer sound system).
I didn't plan on doing any overclocking, at least for the first 2 years

Most of the stuff I'd order from www.ewiz.com

Mother Board : 120$
Asus P5K SE Core 2 Quad/ Intel P35/ FSB1333/ DDR2-1066/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=MB-P5KSE

CPU : 215$
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 1333FSB 4M L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=E6750BOX

Video Card : 290$
8800 GTS EVGA superclocked
http://www.ewiz.com/shopcart.php?additem=EV-88_32OC

Hard Drive : 110$
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA2 7200rpm 16MB Hard Drive
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=HD-W50AAKS

RAM : ~140$

Here I wasnt sure. I saw this RAM that looked very good, but unknown brand to me, it also as good reviews
STT DDR2-1000 2GB (2x1GB) CL5 Dual Channel Memory Kit
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=T1000UX2G5

Else, maybe I was better to go with something like this
Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?imodule=BL2KIT12864AA804

And finally, for all that, I was thinking getting the Sonata III Box with the 500 Watts Power supply
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=CA-SONATA3
120$

Please I'll accept all quality feedback. Even if its just, that system looks like a well balanced quality-price computer system. If something could be tuned without affecting the price much please let me know

You want to make sure your RAM is approved for the board. I couldn't find that exact board at ASUS's site, but for the P5K, this is the memory QVL. You will want to find the right QVL for that board to double check what RAM to get....good luck!

That's odd, the link you gave me doesnt work on xbitlabs

And yeah, I mentioned above I was a noob, hehe. TT PSU's I guess stand for Tower XXXXXX Power Supply Units, so I guess you are telling me the power supply in that tower is weak

Problem is I cant order from newegg since i'm Canadian, and if I order case online it costs me almost as much just to ship it to me ( I had found the sonata III in a store close here, else if I ordered the 110$ tower on ewiz.com it cost me 75$ just in shipping)

Is this one any better?

If you say the packages arent good though I can always find them seperatly in a local store over here

Thanks MrTechnofreak

I looked it up on Asus, it was all pretty confusing to me, thats how I found the Crucial seemed better cause the Super Talent had N/A next to the results

DDR2 800 1024MB Super Talent Heat-Sink Package N/A N/A DS T800UB1GC4 V V V

Does that chart means that anything with a 4 instead of a 5 and a N/A is as good?

Meaning I could get
DDR2 800 1024MB CORSAIR Heat-Sink Package 4 N/A DS CM2X1024-6400C4
Or
DDR2 800 1024MB KINGSTON Heat-Sink Package 4-4-4-12 N/A SS KHX6400D2LLK2/1GN
Or
DDR2 800 1024MB Crucial Heat-Sink Package 4 N/A DS BL12864AA804.16FD

And they'd all work fine?

Yea, but like I said, I couldn't find that board you have linked on ASUS's site, so you may want to do some looking for yourself...I didn't spend a bunch of time. The link I put up there is for the P5K, and you have the P5K SE...

Yeah I saw that when I went on it... i was kinda ignoring it tbh. Lol I spent so many hours on this I think I started making dreams about it, and now I wanna order ASAP cause i'm moving to my apartment tomorrow and i'm PC-less!!!

But if the ASUS website itself doesnt have the card listed, where could I find that info? Maybe I should switch boards?

If you don't plan on going SLI (doesn't look like it), a popular choice right now is the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R...only $10 more on newegg. (It's the board I'm getting so I'm a bit biased), and then go with the Crucial 2gb kit that are $80 after rebate (yes, they are approved for that board).

Nah i dont plan on SLI
I'll consider that board but the problem is I cant order from newegg since i'm in Canada, and their prices didnt reflect the other websites, usually other websites were more expensive
I also really like ASUS brand, always had their motherboards they always worked great

Babybudha, oddly enough couldnt find that info on ewiz, but by looking at Careers I see their are recruiting only in San Jose in California, I assume theirs their headquarters so American Company
Its probably in US currency as well but that doesnt really matter with the current economy, 1$ canadian is worth 94,25 US

So techically the system I have in the first box is around 1000$ US so that'd make only 1060$ canadian really not a big deal

Was reviewing a few things today, and I wonder

Would I be better off to get a setup more like this and upgrade my video cards in the next 2 years

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz 8MB LGA775 EM64T CPU
303$
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=Q6600BOX

Asus P5KC Core 2 Quad/ Intel P35/ DDR3+DDR2/ CrossFire/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard
158$
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=MB-P5KC

Asus nVidia GeForce 8500GT Silent 512MB DVI/HDTV PCI-Express Video Card
132#
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=AS-85GT512

Oh and please, more feedback would be appreciated :)

And what Val pointed out is real interesting, the power supply inside the Sonata III looked very similar to the one marlborosmoker pointed me too

marlborosm, I found that link, but I'm not sure that has much to do with that particular case / psu.

I think the 8500gt is around the same speed as a 7600gt (the 8500gt supports directx10, but it won't be able to play any directx10 games).

It will not play new games at anywhere near high settings.

You could also consider something like this if you are looking for something cheaper,

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-19PRO25

Here are some 8500gt benchmarks,

http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2135&page=5

It actually seems to be getting beat by a 7600gs in that article.

Here's some other benchmarks comparing it to other nvidia 8xxx offerings

The 8500GT is the bottom of the barrel 8-series card, akin to a 7300 series card. Get it if you don't want to use onboard graphics, don't expect to play anything like FEAR, CoD2, GRAW, etc, not to mention DX10 games. The only plus it might have is h.264 acceleration, but who has a BD or HDDVD drive on their PC? A 7600gt absolutely destroys it in benchmarks and comes close to the 8600gt in most.
