im looking into making a cheap home theater pc from the old components of my system that i'm scrapping for my new computer- so i have most things

unfortunately, my old Radeon 9600 wont output HDMI, so what i need is a reccomendation for a very cool running card with DVI output, and will fit in a cube or desktop case (havent decided yet on a case)

but whatever runs the coldest; since im not going to be playing games on this thing, its just going to be a storage box for movies and music and such

thanks for any input

Looks like a job made for the new HD2400 to me if you google it im sure you can find out about it as in what it does and dosent do as im not that sure,i do know that they are made to be HTPC cards though they have dedicated decoding hardware but i cant expand on it any better than that .
Maybee another will come along who knows the card better or put a search in toms.

2400XT

Both are silent, Heatsinks with no fans, so no noise the 2400XT being 80$ while the 8500GT being 60$

2600XT 109$

In many reviews the 2600/2400 Decodes DVD and has far better media capabilities such as Avivo which is free unlike PureVideo which from Nvidia you have to buy. I'd say buy the 8600GT for cheapness but lacks the Qualty of HD video because you have to buy PureVideo. the 2400XT should just be avoided at all costs for 80$? thats insane its a horrible card and the 2600XT which is only 20$ can Vastly out perform it. If you got the money get the 2600XT for 109$ great card but 2600/2400 series are better for media than gaming :pfff: so dont expect to play anything on high with good FPS.
