I was waiting on the 2600XT to come out so I could use the hdmi to watch movies on my 60" sony XBR 2 1920x1080, but now I am not so sure of what I need....what I am wondering is will these cards fill the screen and support my tv's resolution. Right now I have my old P4 3.0ghz with a 6600 GT running my movies on my tv and it will not output a resolution over 1280x1024...and it does not fill the entire screen. I am running it through the vga input on the back of my tv right now...I connected it with S Video and I couldnt go over 1024x768.

I will be building a new computer with a P35 mobo, Q6600 and 2gb ddr2 800mhz...so its come down to the video card.

Go to ATI/AMD and see if a 2600xt will support that res. Look for release notes, or type supported resolutions

The specs on my 6600 gt says it can support 2500xSomething...yet it will not allow me to select it. I was hoping that someone had a first hand experience and could tell me so that I didnt waste a lot of money on something that the computer I already have can do.

Your 6600 may support high PC resolution but not HDTV resolutions, if I were you I would go with the 88 GTS 640 or 320. I know that from the 7800 gt up they support HDTV I have a 7800 running a 27" HDTV I use on my work machine at 1920x1080.

The 2600xt actually has better support for HD than any 8800 series. It has UVD, which helps with VC1, .264 etc. Itll help with the cpu, and it should support that res as well. Just not that great for gaming

And as for gaming goes, its better. Im not saying this card is a monster, just a lower midrange for gaming. For HTPC using HD , its great. Heres for the gaming compared to what you currently have http://www23.tomshardware.com/grap [...] &chart=318

I have a new 1080 hdtv as well, and while I know the XBR to be a great panel...takr a look at the supported resolutions thru each connection in the manual. Some sets only will take certain res's from PC input signals. My samsung 4061 is coming along but the rig I have hooked to it can't push it- waiting to get a 40' hdmi for WS gaming. GL

i have an 8800GTX and run my 40" LCD @ 1920x1080 no problems for movies and games... looks and runs beautifully connected through the VGA input on the back of my TV... for some reason if i try to connect an HDMI cable the displayed image is slightly larger than my screen size and i cant fix it.

600xt SHOULD, note SHOULD be able to use full HD and run that TV normally, unless you're using 3d apps I cant see why it shouldnt, 3d apps at that resolution might cause a problem.
