Im considering buying a Radeon X1650 PRO GDDR3 for my 2 year old prebuilt compaq prestario desktop. I've figured out that it does have an agp slot but before i go ahead and buy the card, I just want to be sure that it will work. Is there different versions of agp? if so how would i know what my computer has.

It should work. Most AGP boards till in use these days have AGP 4x or AGP 8x, and 8x cards will work in 4x boards.

That being said, you should know that the x1650pro cannot handle recent games. It achieves a horrible 3.7 fps in Oblivion for example. Consider an x1950Pro or x1950xt, even if they cost more and require a more powerful PSU.

What CPU do you have, and how much RAM? If these are not good enough then the x1950 cards would be bottlenecked, and you're better off just building a new system from scratch.

You can get some details from "My Computer". Find it on your desktop, right click, select Manage. Or click the Start button, select Run, type msinfo32. It depends on your version of Windows.

Depending on what you have now, I'd get the memory upgrade before you get the video upgrade. 512MB isn't very much for XP +game. Also, for AGP, the x1650pro isn't that bad. There are better cards out there for sure, but on the AGP bus they start to get very expensive very fast. Do some research and make sure that the 7600GS isn't faster then the 1650pro.

im considering the 7600gt+ a 1g ramstick to hold me off for right now till i come up with a bit more cash. This would give me a large fps boost on games like wow and cs:source right? cause currently w/ my intergrated sis 760whatever and 512mb of ram i hit 15fps tops on low settings on wow.

and I know this is rong section but... even tho my current ram is a 512 why does it display only like 384 when i run everest or just system settings?

There are 2 versions of AGP slots, but you don't have to worry about it, beacouse that other version of AGP slot is verry old. Before some 8-9 years and more AGP slot was 3,3V, and today is 1,5. If you put ''Modern'' AGP card in 3,3V slot, card will die. But again, don't worry, your MBO for sure has newer version.

Most likely because you are running on onboard video which takes some of your main System RAM for video purposes. If you upgrade to a separate video card you will regain that lost RAM.
