Hi, I’m looking to build a nice new gaming system as my current one is about 6 years old… OC’d 1GHz T-Bird. Anyway, I’m looking to keep the price under $1700, throw in some overclocking, and keep the whole thing relatively quiet. I’m in Ontario, Canada as well, so all of these prices are in CAD$ and from sites such as Tiger Direct, Canada Computers, and NCIX. Buying from the US and shipping over the border will kill me with taxes.
I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 204B (20", 1600x1200) so I won't be playing anything above that res.
I also have speakers already, Logitech Z-5500.
Anyway, I'm wondering if this looks like a good build or not.
Will the motherboard give me strong OCing support? I've read this CPU can make it to 3.8GHz...
Should I put in the extra bit of money and get the 8800GTX? EVGA 8800GTX 768MB - $560
Will the 8800 series fit in this case with no problems?
Is the heatsink good enough? Overkill? Will it fit the case?
Will the PSU be strong enough for OCing and a couple more HDDs?
Anywhere you see that I can probably save money is great too! Wow, that's a long post...
I'd say get a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R its cheaper and put that money into getting yourself the 8800GTX. Also remove the Raptor drive and get a cheaper and larger sata drive. You don't really feel the performance drop and save some money
Solariscs, I think I'll take those suggestions. That mobo is certainly cheaper and should provide what I need for OC. And I guess I'll pry myself from that Raptor, and boost up on the graphics, a worthy trade.
Catastophi, I'm gonna stay dual core to save some money, the Q6600 is $340 CAD at the cheapest I can find. The dual should work great for games and has lots of room for the OC.
Anyone have further advice on the PSU and heatsink??
Thanks
