I just completed building a list of my new system, I would like to someone to take a look at it before I buy the parts.
This will be my first home built system

CASE:- Antec 900 atx mid tower
PSU: Thermaltake Purepower RX W0144RU ATX12V / EPS12V 600W
MOBO:GA-P35-DS3R
RAM: Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB)
VIDEO CARD: BFG Tech BFGR79256GSOCE GeForce 7900GS 256MB
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
HDD 1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB
HDD 2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
DVD DRIVE: LG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black IDE Model GSA-H22L

The system I want to build will mostly be used for video and photo editing, sometimes gaming

Does 10,000 rpm (raptor) HDD make significant difference from 7200 rpm HDD, specially for video capture and editing??
Thanks

I changed the case to - COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel, SECC ATX

graphic card to - EVGA 256-P2-N761-AR GeForce 8600GTS 256MB GDDR3
power supply to Corsair 520W SLI Certified Modular ATX Power Supply - CMPSU-520HX
and I'm planning to run this on Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2B 1 Pack

what do you think about those changes ??

I know that CPU comes with its own fan and heatsink, but should i get different one than one provided by manufacturer ??
thank you for any advice or suggestions
Pete

I would change the graphics card if you plan on doing some gaming. The 8600GTS isn't really that good. If you can move up to a 8800GTS 320MB or you can get an X1950 Pro for around $140, which an awesome deal.

The CPU fan and heatsink that come with the chip are more than enough to keep it cool if you aren't overclocking. You don't really need any other coolers :)

as far as raptor performance, its really only beneficial to desktop use when its comes to rapid accessing of smaller files (such as with an OS and applications, as thats where the higher rpms benefit most). boot times are primarily dependant on STRs (the higher the STRs, the faster you can boot), which is why raid 0 benefits it so well. higher STRs also benefit media editing and capture that youre wondering about. a raptor however, will mainly only benefit the OS (again, faster seek times), as hdd STRs much above ~30MB/s are more nullified when it comes to regular use, and for many non media applications for that matter even (as most files even dealt with are very small usually).

I know you're planning on using XP right now but if you plan to upgrade to Vista at any point in the near future then you may want to reconsider the Optiarc. I can't remember where but I read several posts recently about it's incompatibility.

Apart from that your system is very similar the one I finished building last night. I went for the P35C-DS3R (DDR2 & DDR3) simply it should cost me less (i.e; won't have to replace motherboard) if I decide to go for DDR3 over the next 12-18 months when it's 'ready' for mainstream consumption.

I'v been doing some research, about what cpu and video card are recomended for video editing, and I think I will go with Q6600 cpu, but I read about ATI FireGL series video workstation cards as being better for DCC applications and 3d than Radeon series.
I was thinking aout this one, since fire gl v3600 is not released yet.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195010

Is there much difference between Fire Gl video card and the one that I'm intending to buy (Sapphire 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256 MB GDDR3 PCI Express) ??
thanks
