Hi there! Please help this newcomer keep his case cool!

First, some details about my system:

E6750 + Scythe Ninja @ 3,2 GHz (8x400 MHz)
2GB Corsair 6400 CL4 @ 800 MHz 4-4-4-12
Gigabyte P35-DS4
Leadtek 8800 GTS 640 MB (stock cooler)
NZXT Hush (stock fans, one 120 mm intake and one 120 mm exhaust)
Corsair 520 W

CPU temperature:
idle 42 C (idle = normal everyday usage in windows, web browsing, media playback, downloading etc)
load 65 C (load = running orthos)

GPU temperature:
idle 66 C (UNDERclocked to 256/396 MHz, fan @ 80 %)
load 83-88 C (stock clocks or slightly overclocked, fan @ 100 %)

I have suspected for some time now that my case has insufficient air flow, and that this might be the cause for my somewhat higher(?) than average temperatures. This afternoon I removed the side panel of the case while keeping an eye on the temperatures. The result? Both CPU and GPU temperatures dropped a whopping 10 C! The CPU is currently idling at 33 C, the GPU at 56 C.

Is this huge decrease in temperature normal behaviour for a case with decent air flow? If not, how do you suggest I improve it? New fans? New case? :sarcastic:

When you take the side panel off, your CPU fan (all fans for that matter) have fresh air to blow onto the processor and cool it more efficiently. Same for you MB and video card. Fresh air is available to be blown across the surfaces and cool it, where your case was not allowing that to occur when closed with the side panel in place. I would get a new case with a 'mesh' fully open front and preferably with 120 mm fans as opposed to 80 mm fans. Also, some of the newer cases are designed with the power supply housed seperately from the MB/CPU area. These type cases work great. If you keep your case, you could get 80m to 120 mm fan adapter for the case fans and then use 120mm fans. Ha, if you really want to drop your temps, stick a house fan in the open side panel.

I use this case with 11 120mm fans and a seperate psu housing area. The cooling solution offered with this case is excellent.

I also have great success with cooling with this case, it has an open 'mesh' front panel and allows for excellent airflow. great price too.

Actually, I'm already using 120 mm fans. Two of them. The ones that were supplied with the case. Unfortunately, it's not possible to add more - there are only two fan slots in the case.

5 case fans is completely unnecessary. I have one intake and one exhaust fan, not including the 120 extremes fan or the psus fan. Your case only has an intake fan at the bottom and the top of your case is solid so no fresh air is coming through there. Does your cpu coolers fan blow the air directly at your exhaust 120mm fan? An aftermarket cooler for your gpu would lower temps probably 20c. What are your ambient temps also.

Chop your case up and add some more fans. I had idle temps of 72 and full load temps of 81 on my 8800gts when I had no extra case fans. I added 2 80mm side fans right next to the gpu blowing in on it and I dropped the temps to 47 idle and 53 full load. And that was in a hot room too. Now with 5 80mm, 1 60mm and 2 120mm fans in a nice cool room my temps dropped to 42 idle and 47 full load. If you want to add more fans, just trace em out and take a dremel and a drill and cut some new slots. It works well.

This case is very good at cooling and doesn't cost the world

Has

-1 top 200mm TriCool fan with 3-speed switch control
- 1 rear 120mm TriCool fan with 3-speed switch control
- 2 front 120mm special black TriCool blue LED fans with 3-speed switch control to cool HDDs
- 1 side (optional) 120mm fan to cool graphic cards
- 1 middle (optional) 120mm fan to cool CPU or graphic cards

And looks cool, in my opinion
