I'm looking around for a new LCD monitor. Right now I have an old LCD monitor with a 20MS response time and there is ghosting which isnt very satisfying considering I just spent 2000 dollars building a new computer. I've been looking around and these look like great deals with awesome stats... opinions?

Is 2ms necessary for a hardcore gaming computer?

Perhaps I would be happier with the 19" monitors? It is what I use now... the resolution seems fine to me and its a good deal smaller (resolution wise) then other monitors slightly bigger so it should play games better on max res.

I'm lazy and didn't look at the links....lol, but my suggestions are these two monitors - 1. VX922 19' from Viewsonic
And the 2. 226BW 22' from Samsung. I have owned both monitors. I recently upgraded from the first to the second. Both monitors have 2MS response times ( no ghosting WHEEEE!) The Vx922 is limited to 1280X1024 Res. (as it's only downside) And the 226BW can do 1680X1050 ( widescreen ) The 19' is cheaper and is an EXCELLENT monitor. The 226BW is decently priced, I beleive about 100 USD more though, but suffers from poor manufacturing ( The S,A,C, Dilemna) I recieved a 'C' and took the time to calibrate and now it looks ver nice. But It is such a hassle. I would recommend the 19' by viewsonic. IMO it has no real flaws, and it won't break the bank. Good luck.

I'm sure anything you get will be an upgrade. I know it was for me. My old LCD was probably similar in specs to yours. I have 2 monitors, both samsungs. One is 4ms and the other is 2ms. I can't tell a difference.

Only thing about the samsung is that you get some of the backlight bleeding in at the top and bottom. Doesnt bother me but some find it annoying. I'm looking at upgrading to a 24" Dell so I guess we'll see how much better it is.

I.ve recently changed from vx922 (2ms) to samsung 225bw (5ms) and I can't tell the diff between both ... I mean come on 3ms diff .... If someone notices the diff he must have bionic eyes !!

Well I was debating between the Samsung 226BW (comes with a DVI cable, 2 ms response, 3 year warranty) and the Westinghouse LCM-22W3 (no DVI cable although it has a DVI input, 5 ms, 1 yr warranty). The 226BW was on sale at Best Buy for $319.99 (also available at newegg for same price but with $20 rebate) and the Westy was on sale at Best Buy for $179.99. I decided to give the Westy a try (I tend to be frugal) because the price seemed too good. Never had a LCD monitor before and I could alway return it to Best Buy with 14 days if I didn't like it. I have been happy so far (3 days). If price is an issue, you might want to give it a try.

if the 226bw doesn't fit into your budget, you could take a look at the 223bw (same as the 226, but with a 5ms response). the 20" version (206bw) can also be a good option (It is on sale for ~260€, here in France, so it must be $260 in the US).

I also read about a new series (2032bw/2232bw) that would use the same LCD panels as the 206/226. only difference would be the exterior design :

These new models have just become available here, so I suppose they're also available in the US. I noticed they were sometimes a bit cheaper than the 2x6bw series...
