Hello, I running an 8 year old IDE Western Digital 80 GB HDD. It recently began having read errors, I have all my data backed up - so that isn't the problem.

I haven't kept up to date on all the latest computer specs, I really don't know anything about Serial ATA.

I know my board (an Intel D875PBZ) supports (2) ATA connections that are currently unused. I looked into buying a 500 GB Seagate HDD w/ and "ATA-300" connection - would that be supported by my board?
Or am I better off buying a cheaper board with a more compatible connection...

Below are links to the HDD I'm interested in & a link to the board specs from Intel.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!!

Eric,

I used a SATA-300 drive on my P4C800 and that is SATA-150. On some SATA -300 drives it has a jumper to limit it to 150. But I have 3 of the 7200.10 320Gig drives and I am sure that they dont need the jumper.

SATA-300 is backwards compatible with SATA-150. Drives and controllers.

I think that yoru old motherboard suports only ATA interface since u said that you have a 8 year old hdd,the new motherboad you wish to buy suports PATA(IDE) and SATA(serial ATA) hard disks so this souldn't be a problem with your Seagate barracuda drive.
