So I have been having issues with my 10 month old XFX7950GX2 for the last 2 weeks or so and I would like some help in sorting it out. I will start by saying that I have 2 years parts and labour on the system I bought, and I have already contacted service about it (with no response as of yet).
System Specs:
C2D E6700 @ Stock with an Arctic Freezer 7
P5B Deluxe w' WiFi
2x1GB Corsair TWIN2XPC6400C4
Thermaltake 550W
XFX7950GX2
I did a complete driver uninstall, CC Cleaner and driver update yesterday.
Here is what happens to me:
When I originally bought the card, if I ever tried to adjust the GPU speeds with nTune, even if I just opened the performance tab, my whole system would lock up. BEyond that I had no issues, and since I had no desire to OC my GPU, I left it. Well, I still have that issue with the most recent drivers and nTune software, but now on top of that, I have 2 more issues.
First off, I get random nv4_disp.dll BSOD crashes. Sometimes they happen right after start-up, other times it is after anywhere from 5 minutes, to 5 hours of game play (any game). Second, sometimes at completely random times, my Samsung 226BW will just go completely black and alternate between Analog and Digital mode. When that happens, the system hiccups. Any sound playing will loop the last 3 seconds of audio. Sometimes the system recovers fine to what ever I was doing, others, it never recovers nad I have to hard reboot.
Is this a GPU issue, power issue or PCI-e slot issue? Let me know if you need more info from me!
I had an issue myself with games not what your having tho.. Try going to nv web site and go to the beta drivers. Go to where it says advanced search and it will ask what graphics card you have. It then will give you a list to what is the best driver for the 7950 gx2. I installed the 94.24's and it makes my games run really fast.... Don't download the new 162.18's they make the card run slow. Also ntune suck's download coolbits 2 it's an easy overclocker.... I had a problem with Stalker with the new drivers, I couldn't even render the game in DX 9. after a little research, bamm.
oh when you revert back to old drivers, it will ask you.. do you want to overwrite old drivers on the new.. say yes.. that should make everything run better.. try www.tweakguide.com, that's a cool site.. it tells you everything....
If I upgrade to a 8800 GTS 320 OC should I look into more power? I was looking at the Corsair HX 620W.
Uhmm that's up to you, the 7950gx2 is almost comparable to it, except DX10 support.. I'm fine with my 7950gx2 Unless your planning on running sli you don't have to spend the extra money for 70 more watts.. thats my opinion..
Thanks for the reply. I am checking the Nzone page for Beta drivers, but I dont see the area for Advanced Search. I will see if I can find the 94.24s on the site and I will hope that WAR Beat works with them. Also, I got an RMA for the card, so maybe I will try my luck with a new one.
