Hi,

Looking to build a new system with a Q6600 G0 Stepping CPU.

But wanted to know, would this preliminary design allow me to reach 4Ghz?

Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F (for the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme)

Antec TPQ-850 ATX12V / EPS12V 850W

------------------------------------------------------------

Memory - (Not sure which of the below would be better) Would be over-clocking ram along with CPU.

Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 (4 x 1GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820146565

OCZ Reaper HPC Edition DDR2 800 (4 x 1GB)

G.SKILL 2GB DDR2 800 (4 x 1GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231065

------------------------------------------------------------

Motherboard - Not really sure here. Maybe someone could suggest a good motherboard for over-clocking? (P35 vs 680i - ?) I guess it should be PCI-Express 1.1, as that supports PCI-Express 2.0, correct? Also, isn't P35 the only one of the two that will support Intel's new 45nm chips?

------------------------------------------------------------

Case - Was looking at this one as it has good air flow and is full tower.

Thermaltake Armor Series

Thanks

Fan of corsair memory myself, but ocz reaper is pretty good too.

If you are looking for a good motherboard that id suggest maybe a Asus P5K-E or Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R. Gigabyte one supports 45nm chips and ddr 3, and personally speaking it is a good OC'er.

Tbh tho from just reading around the goal of making a Q6600 run at 4GHZ with lasting stability is near impossible. 3.6GHZ seems to be the goal most peeps stand by and those who reach 4GHZ it only runs stable for a short time.

Case if ur looking for supreme air flow then an Antec 900, will keep ur system very cool.

Asus P5K Deluxe or Premium is about the best overclocking mobo unless you want to wait for the P38 chipset.
4.0 on air is pretty much unattainable. Some, but not many, have been able to reach 4 on water cooling. I have gotten to 4.0 long enough to bench but never stable. The highest stable clock I can get is 3.85 and then the required vcore is a bit scary.

I guess 4Ghz was hoping for too much. Around 3.5Ghz would still be good though.

Yeah, was also looking at the Antec 900 too. However, it's a mid-tower with some space issues from what I hear and I also heard it's hard to fit large video cards in it.

Also genec57, why did you get the Q6700? Isn't the Q6600 (G0 Stepping) the same processor, but with just an extra 200Mhz for $200 more?

I was too impatient to wait for the Q6600 GO and the Q6700 was there. :)
In retrospect I wish I had waited a bit longer. The 6700 doesn't overclock any better than the 6600 - but, oh well.

I've got an Antec 900 with a Tuniq Tower 120 and BFG8800GTS OC2 640mb. It fits the cooler and the video card fine. Tons of room. I could fit a couple of GTXs in the case (I have over 1 inch from end of my card to the hard drives). Thing is like a wind tunnel. That 200 mm fan on the top is incredible.

Thanks for the feedback.

Any off switch for the front LEDs? Did you add the fan to the top of the Tuniq or the side? In the preview window on Newegg, it shows it on top, but I didn't think any case would fit that it looked to be really tall.

Also, for the side fan on the Antec 900, what fan did you use? And is that used for blowing air in or sucking air out?
