i just got myself a ds3, when plugging my 2 raptors or my 500gig WD in the gigabytes SATA chipset ( purple slots) everything is seen and a raid can be done with my 2 raptors.

But when trying to plug any of the hard drive in the fou yellow slots ( ICH8), the startup screen lasts for 1-2 min saying "detecting IDE Drives" then it will not see any drive, none are reconized.

Anyone had this problem?

Thank!

I know for me when I installed 32 bit xp, I had to install the sata drivers when windows asks for 3rd party scsi drivers (hit F6).

Maybe you're experiencing a similar situation?

I don't think he's that far yet; He can't even get the BIOS to detect them....

In the BIOS, select Legacy mode for the SATA ports. You may need to jumper the drives to 150mb/sec.

When you say "a RAID can be done" that implies to me that you've loaded the RAID and/or AHCP drivers.

Hi
Have a look at Sec.2-3, pages 36-38 in the manual. See if you've "Enabled" the "Set SATA Port0~3 to operate at Native IDE mode."
Wish you luck.
