The Barracuda 7200.10's latest revision is 20-30% slower than the earlier revisions. If you gotta get the Barracuda, get the ES model. is this true?

I have the Seagate 500gb ES and it's a good drive with the exception of loud seeks. Right now the Samsung Spin Point drives are just about the best and are about $110 for 500gb. As far as which is better 320x2 or 500x2 I have never seen anything that confirms lower performance with larger drives and if there is a difference it would only be minimal. 500gb drives have the lowest gb per $ price right now so I think 2 of those would be your best option.

The difference is in fractions of a second so in real world conditions you wouldn't notice it. The thing I like about Seagate is the 5yr warranty but WD, Hitachi, Samsung, or Seagate are all about the same.

They're very good, I got three WD5000AAKS and can't complain.

I don't think you'd notice a difference between them and Seagate 7200.10 500 GB disks. I read a review some weeks ago and the numbers they measured for Seagate and WD were almost identical - seek time, transfer rate, noise, temps, etc - all similar.
