Hi New to the board and thanks in advance for any reply! What a great site for information.
I want to build my first computer mostly for gaming and flight sim x, i am looking to go no more than 1500.00
I was thinking of trying the toms mid range tyoe set up:

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2.40 GHz, 1066 FSB, 2 MB Cache
Motherboard MSI 965 Platinum, BIOS: AMI 080014 (09/08/06)
RAM Patriot eXtreme Performance PC2-6400
2x 1024 MB, CAS 5-5-5-15
Hard Drive Western Digital Caviar RE2 WD5000YS
500 GB, 7200 RPM, 16 MB Cache, SATA 300
Networking Realtek RTL8168/8111 Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Graphics Cards Card 1: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS
GPU: 500 MHz
RAM: 320 MB 1600 MHz
Power Supply Aero Cool Zerodba 620W Crossfire/SLI ready
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

should i change the processor to the 6750 or 6850? any other ideas to swap out or problems i might run into?
suggestions on any swaps? also looking to find a decent 22" monitor thanks so much will this system be ok for the gaming?

I started out with going for the GTS 8800 680, and they said either bump up or go down. The 320 looks to be nice, but if you could afford it I would bump up to the GTX.

thanks for link Maziar, i think i will be going e6850 for gaming. when you say its worth it to go up to the gtx will is ee a couple hundred dollar difference in games like flight sim x or will 320mb gts look the same?
I will go with p35 board also thanks

any time mate
Well , if u play resolutions higher than 1600x1200 , then consider the GTX , its worth for the price , if u player lower than that resolution , a 8800gts 320 is good , and it wont have much difference with the 8800gts 640mb one ,

hit up ArsTechnica.com (probably the best writers in the business) and look at their recent build on this same budget.

Yes to the GTX if you can afford it. In FlightSim in particular it will be a waste of $200. In every other game I ever heard of it will be an excellent investment of the additional $200 compared to the GTS. Sorry, I hope you like other games too...

Yes to the P35 - get GA-P35-DS3R. E6850 will work on it, it won't work on the 965 chipset. Maziar likes Asus, I forgot the model now but he has found a nice Asus alternative to the GA-P35-DS3R, ask him

Internet: you have onboard networking with that motherboard, that could help with certain types of access.
You need to spend $17 on a V.92 modem but only if you intend to get dial-up access. For high-speed access your provider will supply the modem or at least tell you what to buy.

Don't like that Aero Cool business. You're getting top-quality parts here, might as well match them with a serious PSU. Read this: http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiered+PSU+Listings?t=anon
and then choose one of these:
