To Upgrade or to Silence?

OK all. Been awhile!

As some of you will likely not remember, I got some GREAT information here and succesfully installed a X800GT and upgrading it to the larger (16?) pipelines. Sorry I dont quite remember the whole deal.

ANYWAY.... I have a problem. The card has gotten VERY VERY loud. I thought cleaning it might help, but it doesn't. Ive looked at it, inspected it and while there is some dust on the fan, it seems to be spinning with a slight wobble.

Is there anyway to silence this? Or, alternatively, is there a gaming upgrade that might be available for around 100 dollars that is a signifigant jump?

My rig specs should still be in my sig!

Get an aftermarket fan and replace the stock fan.
You could water cool it also.
Or look in the ATI driver options for options to control the fan.

Take the fan off and put a drop of oil in the bearings. That worked on an old Ati 9100 and a couple of 80mm fans around my house. Quieted 'em right down!

YOu might check newegg for a 7600Gt or even a 7800GT. AGP

Ugh I tried to take the card out, but isnt there some kind of switch on the AGP slot? I can't get to it to remove the card.

There should be either a small lever or a push-pull retainer on the end of the agp slot.

If your fan is wobbly I would just go ahead and replace the HSF.

Can't really go wrong with zalman though I'm sure theres are plenty of other good ones out there.

In the pics it appears that the Zalman has memory heatsinks.

Ummm On my card it seems the fan is INSIDE the heatsink thing. Can I replace the fan then?

pchoi.. the solution you recommended would run him 55$! To the op, you will need to replace the heatsink aswell i believe. There is a zaleman one that comes with the ram coolers that I saw for $25 that works very well. If it is the one that i saw. have seen working it should cool your core around 10c and the ram 10-15c more then it is now.

That would be $45.00 and $30.00, or a difference of $15.00. By looking at, IMO it would be worth the extra $15.00.
