More Information

I have a DELL mobo originaly the 9150 model with pentium D 3.00g inside. I have start to upgrade the system by replacing the original 2g 533ghz of ram by 4g 667ghz.
After i have change the original 256m graphic card and 375watts power supply. for a 8800gtx superclock and a 500watts power supply.
When was the time for make the upgrade of the CPU i have order the last CORE 2 E6850. I know my motherboard can't support this CPU so i have decide to order a new motherboard....First problem is the DELL casing design. The motherboard that is not standard, the panel where the motherboard screw is on the wrong side of the case, in fact only motherboard made by Dell can fit in the Dell case, they are a miror image of standard motherboard.
Everything was perfect for me with this Dell (ventilation is great, lot of space, strong case), the only problem was the motherboard. So i call Dell support for order a new motherboard. (i have to say that Dell tech. support know nothing on tech. issue, i ask the question about compatibility with the core2 E6850 and they don't know?, in fact they d'ont even know what is the spec. of the motherboard install in the computer they sell????) i have ask then for order the motherboard install in the last Dimension they sell the 9200, (the new computer are sold with Core2 install, so i presume this motherboard will be compatible.) The tech. support can't confirm me if it's working with E6850 cause they sell only with the 1066FSB CPU for now. So they me to try to find my answer about the spec. of the board and compatibility by myself over the net???

So i have order the motherboard from the Dell 9200 (The sale person told me it's a board for Dell Dimension 9200/XPS 410) This is the only info i found on the motherboard chipset here:
Dimension 9200
Intel P965 Express Chipset/ICH8DH
The P965 chipset supports PCI Express graphics, SATA II hard drives, 1066 MHz front side bus, DDR2 667MHz Dual Channel SDRAM, and integrated RAID 0 and RAID 1.

Also Dell selling Dimension 9200 and XPS 410 with maximum cpu install core2 E6700

Questions now:
The CPU E6850 is running on 1333FSB, do you think this cpu will work with this new motherboard i have order because it's only 1066FSB on the spec.???? Did the CPU will work at 1066 or will run at full speed?? Can the CPU burn?

Thank you for your help

I would recommend cancelling the Mobo order from Dell, then simply order a new case and motherboard.

Sorry, that was meant to be an add-on to Zenmaster's comment about getting a case and mainboard, as the OS that came with your Dell can't legally be moved over to a new build.

Well, that is a slippery slope MS has never tested in court nor are they ever likely to test in court.

Much like MS attempts to require companies to purchase two licenses of Windows per computer. Some companies pay for two. Some only pay for one. MS never fights those who only but one out of fear they may lose in court and then lose the extra licensing fees from those companies that buy two licenses per computer.

I know after 3 upgrades i have to call MS for reactive the licenses (security for be sure i still the owner of this cumputer and it's the SAME computer and not only move the hard-drive into another computer) I have everything for prove it's not a new PC but only upgrade. But this is not the problem for now. The question is more for know IF the E8650 will fit on the new Dell motherboard 9200 with the spec below, it's will not be a NEW PC, it's just a NEW MOTHERBOARD 9200.

Dimension 9200
Intel P965 Express Chipset/ICH8DH
The P965 chipset supports PCI Express graphics, SATA II hard drives, 1066 MHz front side bus, DDR2 667MHz Dual Channel SDRAM, and integrated RAID 0 and RAID 1.
