i own the asrock k7 880 upgrade mob http://download.asrock.com/manual/K7Upgrade-880.pdf theres my mob info

also have amd athlon xp 2000+ 1.67ghz 1 gig ram win xp home

video card radion 9250

ok what i want is the radeonx1650 pro but some say i have to oc to prevent bottel neck

ok my mob suports ocing in bios xp 2000 speed 1667mhz l1 cache size 128kb l2 cache 256 kb cluess less on that stuff

but back to ocing i have to use jumpers to oc i tryed it if you look at the info page page 16 shows the FSB_SELO

my mob came with jumpers in the 266mhz i went to the 333 mhz and did the jumper seting in page 17 what they have for a example for the athlon xp 2000+

turned on my pc got to bios showed processor 2080 i was scared to burn it up so shut down put it back to normal

so what id like info what jumpers to use if anyone knows and what safe setting would there be for me to use temps are at cpu36c mb 28

Without reading through your entire manual I'll see if I can help you.

First I need to know if you can alter your FSB from within BIOS? If you can, you should leave the FSB on the mobo, (using the jumpers) to stock, otherwise it probobly won't even post.

Second, I need to know where you change the multiplier? on mine it's done by using 5 jumpers on the mobo, depending on how you place them you change the multiplier accordingly.

last but not least it would be nice to know if you use an aftermarket cooler.. (to better know what we should be aiming for) :)

I got the K7NF2-RAID running an XP2800+ 2.0GHZ OC'd to 2.2GHZ recognized as an XP3200+ running stable with stock cooling.

Edit: and which RAM you got?

yes aftermarket cooler may need a better one but as you said to change the multipler its useing jumpers and 2ed whats the FSB is that the actual frequency mhz cause yes i can change that

Could you post a link to the aftermarket cooler u are using? or just tell me the name of it?

On the mobo set the FSB to stock, lower the multiplier by 1.0 to (11.5 I believe) according to wiki

We can't do anything about the cache, 1.8GHZ is probobly ok, depending on cooling and stability.. it won't fry just like that, dont' worry.. yet :)

Nah. don't worry at all.. I won't fry your CPU, I promise

now, did you set the FSB jumpers on the mobo to stock? and lowered the multiplier to 11.5? FSB stock on the XP 2000+ should be 133

After doing this you should get a reading 1529Mhz.

Edit: I still would like to know which RAM you are using? and how fast they are

Well.. It means that for your computer to take advantage of you GPU ( Graphical processing unit) you need a faster CPU (Central processing unit) aka. processor feeding your GPU with data.. bottleneck is always the slowest part of your system aka. the weakest link.

reboot you comp and enter BIOS, on the first screen you should be able to see the BIOS Version. let me know which version you are running. Also try looking for "CPU Host Frequency" and see if it's set to "Auto" (probobly is, this is where we will change the FSB speed of your CPU, the mobo shall remain at stock speed, FSB133.

oh ok, good, let's move on.. assuming your jumpers on your mobo are where I asked you to put them, multipler 11.5 (important)

now if this is all good try pushing you FSB in BIOS up to.. FSB145 this should bring you CPU back to 1.667Ghz like it's suppose to. we just did it a bit different. if all fails you need to consult you manual and reset BIOS.

I believe that by a mistake you put you multipler to 10.5 and not 11.5.

You see.. buy dividing the MHZ with the FSB you get the multiplier, in this case 1533MHZ divided by 145 FSB = 10.5.. so your multiplier must be 10.5

change it to 11.5

the jummpers im useing are to change the cpu speed with out jummpers it runs 2000+ 167mhz unless i use the seting in jummpers un less i set jummpers to 12x5 which is same as factor

guess your jummpers are drifent u said 11x5 which brings mine to 1800+ 12x5 brings it to 2000+ 167

so just set jummpers to 2000+ 167 and change fsb in bios to 145 ?

very strange...

I'm not sure your CPU is in fact a 2000+ problem is, the only way I know how you can find out exactly is by removing the heatsink and read the numbers... this means you need to apply new thermal compound and if you don't have any this may be a short adventure...

hang on a sec.. need to check some things

Note: The set of CPU Multiplier Jumper is only for advanced users to adjust the
multiplier of CPU. Please follow the table below to adjust the multiplier of CPU.
However, the system will work well without the adjustment of multiplier. You
do not have to adjust the multiplier for normal usage.

For example, “Athlon XP 2000+” is an 1666MHz CPU: 12.5 (Multiplier) X 133MHz (External frequency) = 1666MHz

with no jumppers at all it runs 2000+ 167 ghz under my computer systom properties

with jumpers set to
For example, “Athlon XP 2000+” is an 1666MHz CPU: 12.5 (Multiplier) X 133MHz (External frequency) = 1666MHz under systom properties its now 2000+ 1.81 with the fsb in bios set to 145

screw this.. listen.

go to your FSB setting in bios, make it 145, make sure the multiplier is 11.5, no matter how you turn this around it will give you 1667.5MHZ! - Period!

so, the multiplier is still 12.5.. you need to make it 11.5

Edit: ah, great

Edit again: I still need to know how fast your RAM is.. please let me know, if you don't know try looking for it in bios, or even better remove a stick from the DIMM slot and read the sticker on it.
