"Nvidia to bring PCI-Express 2.0 graphics cards this fall"

Haven't seen this article posted up yet. I was just searching around for new information and stumbled upon this. I'm not sure how credible this is but again, just thought I might post this up.

If it turns out this is posted already please take this down.

The new PCI-Express 2.0 interface is starting to get more attention from chipset and motherboard makers and, as more and more PCEe 2.0 enabled boards arrive and are planned to arrive to market in the near future, Nvidia is looking to support the standard starting from this fall.

The cards to be updated are the GeForce 800GT, 8600GT, 8600GTS and 8800GTX, the last two probably loosing one power connector along the way as PCIe 2.0 can provide up to 150W, double the maximum amount provided by the 1.1 revision. These updated cards will hit the stores in October with the high-end G92-powered card that also support PCIe 2.0 set to arrive one month later, in November.

Actually PCI-E 2.0 its upto 300 watts per card, but not your fault. TCMagazine's type O.

that article has several typos (like what's an nvidia 800GT?)

I also can't see why they'd re-make 88xx cards for PCIe 2.0 if the 98xx series really was only one month more away, the 88xx cards will see no benefit other than removing a power connector, but the 9800GTS should be cheaper than current 8800GTX prices, but with more performance

mind you, that article says "G92", which newer reports have said is a mid range 8800, rather than the rumoured 9800GTS/GTX which the earliest reports said it was

*sigh* I guess we'll find out in a few months

But only 150W of that power will come through the slot; with the new PCIe 2.0 power connector first used on the HD 2900XT, a total of 300W of power will be given through the slot and the cable.

I'd be happier if they would forget PCI-E 2.0 for now and just fix the drivers on their CURRENT cards. Still can't turn off scaling for my widescreen on my 8800GTS...

Thats what I said, 150 watts through the cable & conector = 300 watts per card. In a SLI system double that because now you have 2 cables & 2 slots = 300 watts x 2 = 600 watts. The only PSU's that supports PCI-E 2.0 SLI are Enermax 850 & 1000 Galaxy DXX versions, of corse there are others brands that do. My graphics card can only handle 75 watts x 2 = 150 watts for PCI-E 1.0. If you a still wondering go to www.enermax.com and see the number 5 picture and you'll see.

Dangit....I JUST ordered my 8800GTS 640mb....I worked all summer for the money for it, I'm pissed. This sucks. Maybe I could sell it and get a G92? Or should I stay with the GTS, Oh BTW does P35 support PCIe 2.0?

g92 isn't the midrange btw. It's the high end release. That will be the next big thing for nvidia. With a few months later having the mid range trickle into effect.

Desidude: Which also proves the point as well..that the g92 is the high end.

Also in response to andybird..

the G92 won't be a refresh of the 8800...The g92 is said to break the 1 tflop barrier..I wouldn't expect a midrange card to do that considering the 8800gtx is pushing between 500-600 gflops..^_^
