Hey all,
I've recently installed the original RCT on Windows XP and it's not working.
Not only this, but I've changed rct.exe's compatibility to run in Windows 98
mode and it hasn't helped. I get an error message before the game even
loads.
I've tried installing the many patches floating around on the internet, but
whenever I double-click one of them I get an access violation message
(location: unknown).

Hi,
If I remeber right, there was problems getting RCT to run under WinXP
due to errors in the registry, basicly not all the required info was in
there.
If you have access to a PC that has Win98/98SE with RCT installed, you could
"Export" the registry from that then "Import" it into WinXP. I would have to
go digging through my text files to find all the info thats needed to get
RCT running....

I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it. Install the full version of Rollercoaster or Loopy Landscaps. then go to the Rollercoaster tycoon site from your start menue. download and save the patch then from the svaed location run the patch. You will get a couple of erros this is ok.
Once completed put the cd in the drive and when the sceen appers select play.
You cannot run this game from the start menue but it works just fine if you start it from the CD.
