Right now i have a...

Intel pentium 4 1.6 (no HT)
512mb Sd ram 133 haha no joke
160 gb hdd ide WD
Some Crappy Dell mobo

Now im looking to upgrade to a quad core. I got it picked out and everything its the 2.4 intel that is jsut below 300 smackers

Now to my question i dont understand the North and shouth Bridge things i just dont get it i notice there are alot but this is what im looking at

g33 ich9 (ASUS P5K-V) vs P35 Ich9r (ASUS P5K3 DELUXE)

What do the bridges have to offer for gaming and overclocking. And is there much good with ddr3 right now?

I want to have a sick *** comp for editing and for the upcomming Left 4 Dead game.

The northbridge of those boards is G33 and P35 respectively, with the P35 being the better overclocker. The southbridge is ICH9 and ICH9R respectively, both being identical except the latter having RAID support intergrated onto it. The P5K-V may have RAID, but it will be from a third-party chip, not the SB.

I would say go with the P5K3 Deluxe if you want to overclock.

DDR3 is way way way too expensive right now, stick with high speed DDR2.

Have fun.

100% with the p5k3 if you have the money.

the g33 is the budget chipset with the p35 being maintstream

the x38 is comming out soon and thats high end.
