I have an OEM gateway GT 5082 system with an athlon x2 3800 cpu.... forgot what motherboard it is....see if i can post that info later...

Can I upgrade it to the x2 - 6000, or what is the highest i should go if not the 6000?

Or should I just overclock the 3800 ?

I've already put a new video card and power supply into it... So it only needs a few more upgrades then I'm done modding it.... (just want to upgrade what I have for now....)

I haven't fiddled with all these new processors in a while so just asking! Thanks....

I dont think you will be able to overclock that CPU on that motherboard. If your BIOS will let you then you can upgrade to the 6000+ no problem. However, It might be better to just get a new motherboard and keep that 3800+ and overclock it on the new motherboard.

I think if you have an AM2 mobo then it might be worth to buy an x2 6000+. The price for those chips are very cheap, you might want to check the CPU charts to see what the difference is in some of your favorite programs.
