Q6600 @3.2 slower then E6600 @3.2?

I got today my q6600, thought it might run faster, but something is not right...

I put my E6600 back in, running at 3.2GHz, and F.E.A.R. runs with 130fps.
I change to the Q6600, same 3.2GHz, and F.E.A.R. runs at 60FPS
So I put my E6600 again back in, and it runs again at about 120-130fps.

No other changes to the PC.
VC is 8800 GTS.

What might cause this slowdown?

The PSU is a 680W PSU with 26A on the PCI-E rails.

Okay... with the Q6600, set FEAR to run on core#3 (iirc, it's a single-threaded game. If it's not single-threaded, set it to run on core#2 and #3. (the last two)). That should resolve your issue--I play an open-source game on a revamped 10-year-old engine that absolutely hates multi-core processors (divide max FPS by cores-->100fps on a single core averages 50fps on two, 25fps on four). Anyways--just try setting it to run at the maximum number of threads it creates--as I said, if memory serves, it's 1.

Weird... is the FPS locked at 60 FPS? Even though your just swapping out the CPU, it sounds like your video card v-sync setting is changing somehow.

Check to make sure your video card v-sync is off when you have the Q6600 in there.

v-sync is off, because the title screen runs at 1000+ fps, just the game itself is the difference. Title screen is with both processors 1000+ fps...

Why should v-sync be off?

Go into task manager, and set the affinity on the game using 1core, and 2cores, go back into it, and see if you get any FPS difference. Try both.

Ah yes, but did you upgrade to the newest BIOS for your mobo? I had to on my Asus P5B-Deluxe to utilize my q6600 properly. Try that if you don't have the latest version already.

Yes, tried with the original bios and also upgraded to the latest bios.
I also upgraded all drivers to the latest, from the manufacturers websites. Its exactly the same.
I also plugged in the E6600 again. It shows 2-3 times higher frame rates... but if I compile some source codes, the q6600 is much faster then then e6600.... I am really clueless...

Well dude, if you're running exactly 60 fps consistently, something's obviously limiting it. I don't think anything is wrong with your chip. It's a configuration/coding issue. Orrrr....maybe fraps doesn't play nice with a quad-core. Have you done Aquamark and 3DMark benchmarks? If those scores are wacky, that will tell you if something's up. If you can't notice a difference during gameplay and your synthetic scores are the same/better, I wouldn't sweat it.

3DMark 06 shows about the same with both processors, Aquamark is about 10 lower (Q6600 = 157.xxx , E6600 = 167.xxx)
With the E6600, fear never drop below 80, is usualy above 100-150 all the time. With the Q6600, it drops to 30-60fps only.
VSync IS off, 100%.

Could it be possible that the Q6600 need a little more power so the PSU cant handle it and the VC drops?
The PSU has 2 dedicated 26A 6-pin connectors for the VC...
Would it bring something to connect one 4-pin to the board additionally?

You didn't connect the sqaure 4-pin? I do that with all my PSU's and mobos. Try that. My E6400 @ 3.2Ghz netted me 135xxx in Aquamark and my q6600 @3Ghz nets me 136xxx.

You wouldn't happen to have a friend with a q6600 that you could borrow? I know it's a long shot but the easiest way to tell if you have a bad chip. I doubt you do, since the chip performs excellently in other apps. Search the web about this. Do a google for your problem and see if anyone else shares it with you.

Sorry I can't be any more help. It's really weird. Then again, I use my q6600 mostly for rendering 3D stuff and hoo boy, it's fast.

meh i wasnt 100% sure.. :p i just remeber back in the day with HT if you put in a chip with HT you had to reinstall windows, thought it was the same way with adding cores :p
