I was thinking about getting a x1950gt($140, AGP of coarse) to replace my x800gto. Originally i was going to go for a 7600gt($130) but i heard the 1950gt was faster and a better overclocker.
Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2700+ ~ 2.4ghz
1gb ddr400 Ram
x800gto 256mb
ASUS A7N8X-D motherboard
Iso-500 450w psu(+12v=18.0a)

i know its not great, but do you think it would be a decent upgrade for the money? Mainly just want a cheap reliable shader model 3 card for Bioshock, Crysis ect, even if i have to run on low-med. Any input would be great.

An AXP2700+ is quite low for Crysis with it's physics and all. If not below minimum spec, I'd have to guess it will still not do a very good job. I wouldn't put money into an SM3.0 video card for Crysis with that CPU, especially since I think rumor is it will run on an SM2.0 card and A64 3000+. For other games you may find a nice boost, depending on the res you play at. Many games I wouldn't expect to see much of a boost, especially at say a 1024x768 res.

Edit: even at 2.4Ghz, and AXP is below an A64 3000+. anyway, that will help, but you are still IMO cutting it too close. best to wait and see (for crysis)

lol well im pretty much at the max. when i try to go over the pc restarts. Its also at 54c under load with AS5 and a zalman cooler. I pretty much just wanted to play bioshock since iv been waiting years for another game in the vain of Deus Ex and System Shock 2. If i had the money to upgrade id just scrape the whole thing and build a new one, but collage is starting next month and i cant find a damn part time job anywhere :(
