Hey Everybody --
With the pricedrops on the Quad-Core Processors from Intel, I decided to upgrade my E6600 to the Q6600. So I took the E6600 out and popped the new processor in, and started up windows. In the bios, the processor comes up as the quad core. When I go into control panel/system, it shows the quad core. However, when I open up Task Manager and look at Performance, it is only showing two processors. Also, when I click on Processes and choose a process and 'Set Affinity' it will only let me choose two processors, CPU 0 and CPU 1.
Do I need to do something to make the Quad Core work in Task Manager? Am I missing something?
reinstall windows..when you install it looks at how many cpus you have initially. you had two (6600), now have 4 but windows doesn't know that. reinstall and post back your results.
Every time you upgrade CPUs you have to reinstall windows.
BS, I went from C2D to Q2D and the same thing happened. In the bios you have to make sure all 4 cores are enabled because it continues to use just have two enabled like with the C2D. Then all 4 cores show up in windows, you can verify by going to taskmanager and 4 cores show up under CPU Usage History graphs...., thats it.
Okay -- thank goodness. I have a lot of programs and a lot of stuff that I would rather not mess with.
So I need to enable them in the bios? I'll load up the bios to see if there is an option for it. What should I be looking for?
I have an Evga 680i SLI mobo, and in the bios I believe CPU settings, it lists CPU Core0, CPU Core1, CPU Core2, CPU Core3, with enable and disable check. Just make sure they are all enabled. save and reboot, it should be that simple.
