Hello,
I am about to get a new system :bounce:; but i want to keep my old case and PSU. Here's the setup i am thinking about getting:
GIGABYTE GA-MA69VM-S2
AMD X2 6000
EVGA 8050GT 512MB
2GB pc2 5400

My questions are:
Can I keep my Antec True430 430W PSU?
Will Xp Pro (32-bit) be ok or do I really have to get a new OS?
Also, if you have any comments about the system, please share your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for any response.
Peace.

Did you order anything already? If not, what's your approximate budget? There might be a faster alternative from Intel.

I haven't ordered anything yet. It's waiting in the newegg cart :).
my budget for mobo/cpu/ram combo is around $400. I chose AMD because the intel alternatives seem more expensive.
Will I be able to keep my psu?

With the 8500GT? Most likely, but why would you pair an incredible CPU with a god-awful graphics card? If it's for the "DX10" performance, don't bother. You are better off paying the money for a slightly older DX9 card.

If you plan on getting a better graphics card in the future, plan on getting a better PSU.

With $400 for MB, CPU, RAM you could go with:

E6750 $220

Gigabyte P-35-S3L $87

2GB Crucial DD2 800 $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146565

E6750 easily outperforms an X2 6000+:

Your power supply is fine.
Also like the person above me said, 8500GT is quite awful if you get this PC for gaming, you should spend a little more and get EVGA 7900GS for acceptable performance.

Good luck

Whatever the budget allows really,

<$100 - 7600GT
$120 - 7900GS or X1950Pro
$160 - X1950XT
$260 - 8800 GTS 320MB
$360 - 8800 GTS 640MB
$500 - 8800 GTX

how about the E6550 instead of the x2 6000?
this system is mainly for games and some CAD software.
woud like to run Ghost Recon and MS Flight sim X pretty decently.

I'd say they perform identically.
For these games I'd recommend trying to fit an X1950XT in there.

No need, XP still performs better in games than Vista. I persoanlly wouldn't touch Vista before service pack 1 is released.
You are welcome.

If you're a gamer, my advice is to spend as much money as possible on your graphics card. RAM is cheap these days so that will help you.

Alright I'll stick with Win Xp PRo.
Dior, that article is interesting but I'd love to know where he got the E6750 for $180?? The cheapest i found is $205.

$183 is the price if you are a store and buy in quantities of 1000+, heh. $205 is the cheapest on thenerds.net, you are right.

That setup looks great!

Cool. Well thanks a lot for all the advice. It's greatly appreciated. I will order later tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a much more improved system than my xp3200 setup LOL.
Peace :sol: .

I understand what you are saying and what you are recommending makes sense, soldier, but it sounds like he has heavy budget restraints and the 8800 will most likely not fit into it. The 7900GS will be a good bridge until he can afford a better card.

On the other hand, an X1950 pro/XT would be even better for not much more. See my first post about the PSU. It will be fine for now, but if you want to upgrade later you need a better one.

Here we go again with the C2D runs this and that better..Uhm noo My X2 6000 runs every game maxed settings just fine at 1920 x 1200. Bandwagon people that have no clue of what the other guys have and run, dont believe everything you read. You should have at least a 700W PS and a better video card choice than what you chose. Go with at least a 8800 gts 320mb, depending on your res.

It might run everything maxed 1920x1200, yet an E6750 will run it all %10 faster on average (in games, 25%+ in software) while being underclocked by 400Mhz, that's the truth. It's not about bandwagoning, it's about picking the parts which perform best for the money, and E6750 is just that @$200 mark. 700W PSU? Show me a system that would utilize that in full, I can run two 8800 Ultras on a quality 620W, and you say he for some unknown reason needs 700??
8800 GTS 320mb does perform very, very well for the money, but in this case, like the person above me said, we are dealing with a pretty tight budget.

Is the grafx the only issue here? What would be the best fit for my setup? As for the rest, I thought I chose some pretty good components. I currently have an AMD and i havent had any problems with it, but it does run pretty hot. From the reviews of the E6750, it seems that it runs at an acceptable temp with just the stock fan.
