Hi everyone !!,

This will be my first post :D

Need some help on overclocking

Current enclosed are my specs of my rig

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz
Geil Ultra :800mhz 4-4-4-12 timings
Mobo: Gigabyte P35C-D3SR
PSU:Zalman 460w
MSI 8800 GTS 320MB

As i m really a noobie :pt1cable: on overclocking, was thinking to overclock to 3.2ghz. Can someone enlighten with a step by step guide to configure in the bios ?

e.g
Robust Graphics Booster = Auto
CPU Clock Ratio = 8
CPU Host Clock Control = enabled
CPU Host Frequency = ??
PCI Express Frequency = 100
CIA2 -??
System Memory Multiplier(SPD) =??
Memory Frequency - 800
High Speed DRAM DLL Settings - Option1
DRAM Timing Selectable = Manual or Auto ??

ACT to ACT Delay TRRD = ??
Rank write to read delay = ??
Write to precharge delay = ??
Refresh to act delay = ??
Read to precharge delay = Auto
TRD = ??
TRD Phase Adjust = ??
Sys voltage control = Manual or Auto ??
DDR2 over voltage control =??
PCI-E over voltage control = normal or ??
FSB over voltage control = Normal or ??
(G)MCH over voltage control = Normal or ??
CPU Voltage Control = ??

I read that using some windows based utilites like the easy tune sw is not recommended as once reboot all settings will be gone. Do i need to remove the sw if i were to do manual overclocking ?

Appreciate it if the experts in this domain can shed some light for me

Many thanks !! ;)

Very similar situation, hence I'll give you what I have but it'll all depend on CPU temperature.

Please see below in RED.

e.g
Robust Graphics Booster = Auto
CPU Clock Ratio = 8
CPU Host Clock Control = enabled
CPU Host Frequency = 400
PCI Express Frequency = 100
CIA2 - disable
System Memory Multiplier(SPD) = 2.0 or 2.4 trial and error based as dependent on ram quality
Memory Frequency - 800 will automatically change if you set above correctly.
High Speed DRAM DLL Settings - Option1
DRAM Timing Selectable = Manual

ACT to ACT Delay TRRD = 4
Rank write to read delay = 4
Write to precharge delay = 4
Refresh to act delay = 12
Read to precharge delay = Auto
TRD = ?? leave defaut
TRD Phase Adjust = ?? leave default
Sys voltage control = Manual
DDR2 over voltage control = +0.05 or +0.1 or +0.15 depends on default voltage of ram, i'm using +0.1 with corsair, you'll need to test stability with ram using stress prime, sp2004.fre3.com, download from there. Also will need super pi for test, www.xtremesystems.com/pi and speedfan www.almico.com/speedfan.php and also www.cpuid.com for CPUZ. I suggest you can try +0.1PCI-E over voltage control = normal or ??
FSB over voltage control = Normal
(G)MCH over voltage control = Normal
CPU Voltage Control = 1.4

I read that using some windows based utilites like the easy tune sw is not recommended as once reboot all settings will be gone. Do i need to remove the sw if i were to do manual overclocking ? Please set things in bios and save and exit after doing above step. Also one last stupid setting in gigabyte you'll need to disable. Go to advance bios features and disable following: CPU ENHANCED HALT, THERMAL MONITOR 2 AND CPU EIST FUNCTION. These if enabled will bring back down your OC settings once you get in windows. Can use CPUZ to check if your OC is working correctly after you get in windows. Please beware that CPUZ has waiting time after double clicking. So just wait when after you clicked it. Don't be scared off that your computer is frozen. GOOD LUCK!

^^^ spot on.

Software overclocking is dynamic whereas bios overclocking is static. Purists prefer the latter as it will stress the hardware less. Also, the latter will work in any os including linux/bsd, etc.

A shortcut to overclocking is let others figure out the best stable o/cs of similar hardware. Just search overclocking forums for your hardware keywords "E6750 P35C-D3SR". And try out their settings. With a bit of experience, (i tried once to get where I'm) it's not hard to reach a desired o/c.
