I bought a new SATA drive, Samsung SH-s203b, and after I installed it, I rebooted and it hangs at the detecting drives window. I have WinXP Pro w/SP2 and all of the updates. The version of the drive is SB04. Has anyone else come across this? I've looked on other forums and have had no luck. Thanks.

couple of ideas that might or might not help:

1 - If this is your first SATA drive, make sure the Serial controller is turned on in your BIOS

2 - When in doubt, clear the CMOS and reconfigure the BIOS

3 - adequate power could be the key. try unplugging other things on the 12v line (i.e. other drives, video card, fans etc.) and see if that fixes things

4 - use it as a paperweight and start playing gin rummy with your grandma to pass the time you use to spend gaming
