Now, I have searched, and I know there are many threads, but none of them have really solved my problem.
At the moment I play Battlfield 2, Battlfield 2142, Test Drive Unlimited and Rainbow 6 Vegas. I am looking to playing Crysis, COD4, Frontlines Fuel of War and Assassins Creed.
I do Photoshop fairly regulary and I am often running Firefox, Xfire, MSN and a few other odd programs at the same time.
Now, I read PC Gamer and they say that a good mid range CPU is the E6600, so I was looking at them on the internet because its my birthday soon. I am not looking to do any overclocking, I am looking to spend under £200 and I dont want to have to upgrade for a good few years.
No, whilst lokoing for a cheap E6600 I found a amazing deal on a quad core, Q6600. "Save £110". I thought, "A quad core, for £173. Thats f*cking brilliant". Heres the link: http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.as [...] &InMerch=1
Q6600, no contest at all. Your second choice would be the E6850, but you really fit the profile for Q6600 much better (no overclocking, no upgrade next year, multiple programs at the same time, Crysis).
If, as you said you are not going to over clock, you have no reason to monkey around and wait for the G0 Q6600.
Go get the Q6600 now, you will be glad you did.
Get an E6850 to use as a place holder whilst you wait for a G0 Q6600 to be delivered.
It's working for me.
Now why the heck would you do that??? You're paying twice the price, and installing the CPU and heatsink twice, and all that for the G0? I hope at least you've got a good use for the E6850 when your Q6600 arrives

My best mate has lent me the E6850 (and a 7900 GTO) whilst I wait for my pre-ordered G0 Q6600 to arrive.
Cool! Well, yeah, now I understand. Let us know when you switch to the Q6600, I wonder if it actually feels slower or faster. I've seen all these threads and benchmarks but nobody's ever actually used both so far.
Will do mate, although the one proviso I was given on borrowing this cpu was that I hand it back with both cores working perfectly so no OC'ing on pains of horrible death!
But @ standard clocks with all the power save features enabled it's quite a nippy little bugger and well worth thinking about for those who may be unsure of getting a Q6600 or those really patient souls who are waiting for Penryn.
