I have a 9800 PRO 128 MB Video card and I'm wondering which driver is best for it. Does the omega drivers make much of a difference? If so how much? All help is appreciated.
AMD?ATI still support the 9800 on there driver download site and unless you have a specific reason for not wanting to use them ie a fault of some kind that you can link directly to the drivers i would use those.
Mactronix
I didn't say I didn't want to use them, I asked if Omega improves the performance of the card since they're tweaked. I asked which driver is best, and the latest ati drivers (catalyst) are not very good, they actually decrease performance compared to older drivers. I'm asking, which catalyst/omega driver is best for the 9800 128 MB PRO.
What I care about is performance, so omega are out of the question. I have said...and will repeat, the latest catalyst drivers supply LESS performance than older ones, that's why I'm asking as to which older driver is best.
I've been using XG WarCat 7.1 drivers with my 9800pro. I think I got it from driverheaven or somewhere like that. Performance wise its ok. I haven't extensively tested different drivers, but the ~6.5-7.1 seem to do fairly well on the 9800pro. Not sure which ones are the best, and It was quite a while ago since I last tried looking for the best drivers.
A little outdated, but still useful, the ati omega drivers have the following features:
- NO NEED for Dotnet Framework , reverts to older interface and adds various performance options under advanced display settings
- Smaller interface, it's a very small file and install size compared to catalyst drivers.
- It bundles with a tweaker which allows for advanced settings of your GPU, including overclocking features.
In Short, both catalyst and omega support dx9 i believe (which is the max 9800 pro's will handle btw, so dun bother with directx 10), only the omega ones are smaller, with more optional tweaking components. I've had zero problems with them so far, and on a 1.5ghz system, it really does make a difference in games like WoW. Hope this helps someone =)
