So in a couple weeks im gonna build a new gaming system. Im wanting to build a fairly good system for like $1400. I already have everything picked out but I cant decide weather to put Vista or XP on it. I know about how Vista has all the problems with it, but it does run DX 10 which is a big plus cuz im putting in a GeForce 8800 in it. So I would like some of your opinions on it. Thanks.

HI...

first of all we have to know you PC hardware...

but in my opinion if you have 4GB at least go with vista otherwise Xp is best for now because only a couple of games now use DX10 but there will be more in the future...

Currently DX10 is only a very small marginal improvement over DX9c.
Vista is non playable for gaming unless you have at lest 2 gig of memory.
For gaming Win XP will be the better choice for the next 18 to 24 months.
Really if you can get a copy of Win 2K, play your games on it and then got to Vista. That will give you a really good base to make a decision.

What you can do in 2K with only 1 gig of mem, you can't do in Vista.
Microsoft is sure pulling the con in consumer.
