Cheap gamer seeks classy graphics card.

Just today I was offered $80.00 for my evga 7600GT 580/1500 graphics card. I have been looking to upgrade just a tad before I make the leap to DX10/10.1 this holiday season. So here are a few questions I have.

1. Will my nvidia Nforce4 mobo work with a single ATI card?
2. 7900GS < X1950pro? Two cards I've been looking at.
3. What's the best price/performance card in the $100-$150 price range?
4. Should I just got 8600GT/GTS right now?

Ask if there is any other info you need to help me make the right choice.
Thank you, I appreciate it!

  1. ragnarok,are u in usa?
  2. Sell that and try to buy the X1950XT 256MB for $170, just $20 overbudget but will greatly outperform both the 7900GS and X1950Pro. Who knows... you might be able to find a rebate to drop it down to the $140s
  3. goldenboy- Yes I'm in the USA. That is $80.00 USD.

emp- the X1950XT does look good. I'll see if I can find a good rebate.

Also, does anyone trust graphics cards off ebay? Because they seem to be going pretty cheap. Should I even look at ebay or should I stick to newegg/tigerdirect/zipzoom?
  4. Don't do ebay for electronics, if it's dead out of the box, you'll be screwed.
  5. That's what I'm afraid of. Okay, no ebay it is. How does this card look?
  6. SAPPHIRE 100186L Radeon X1950XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

Tha t's the X1950XT I was talking about. This card is about 130% faster than the X1950GT you mentioned based on the THG VGA charts, that's why I told you that on this price range there is nothing better than the X1950XT.
  7. Hmm looks good. I'll have to sleep on it, but that looks like the card for me.

    Thanks for all the help!
  8. I wonder...

Is it better to be a cheap gamer seeking a classy graphics card or is it better to be a classy gamer seeking a cheap graphics card?

  9. LOL. I think I win either way, seeing as I'm a PC gamer ;).
  10. True enough! :)
