hi
i just buid a new pc
q6600 cpu
8800 gtx
680i asus mainboar

and i did not put any thinking on my hard drive
i just put a 500GB HARD DRIVE 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16M CACHE 7200RPM
and i have some few exterrnal hard drive
after i read a littel bit on the forum i got the idea of mybe improve my hard drive
what is the raptor hard drive? should i put him for my gaming ? or put it for my windows?
isaw that the raptor comes in small sizes

If you have a raptor, you should put it on SATA0/1 as the OS drive. The 500GB should be on SATA1/2 as the backup/data drive. You don't have to have a raptor. I use a small maxtor sata1 hdd as the os drive. It's small. scandisk takes a short time. I back up the os drive to D: with acronis true image. I also have live windows for doing repair/maintenance like disabling scandisk for starting over & over at boot by editing the registry on the C:.

Raptor X is the way to go if you can afford it or them. I have 2 in Raid ) worth every penny!

He's talking about where you plug them in, SATA0 connector, SATA1 connector etc. Usually you plug the main OS drive into SATA0 (or SATA1 if that is the lowest SATA connector number on your drive. The mobos usually start with 0). I don't think it really matters, at least with the P35 mobos, you should be able to change the boot order in BIOS. The Raptor is faster, I would use it as my main drive and put whatever game I was playing at the time on it. Other drives have caught up with regards to throughput, but not seek times. The Raptor is expensive, but I bought one.

Get a raptor for XP like me

Get a Barracuda 7200.10 series for storage (programs, movies, music, photos, files, etc)

Make sure everything that you download gets moved to the storage drive ASAP (in case you download to raptor instead of the storage drive) because leaving that work for later is really annoying.

from all 10,000 rpm hard drive do u think that the raptor will be the best?
74 gb will be enough for my vista and like 4-5 games in install on it?
if i will buy a raptor it will be this model : Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM 16MB Cache WD740ADFD
is he good?>

OS includes apps, games, everything except personal data, backups, etc. You know everything you store in My Document - which can be moved by right-clicking it in start menu to D:, whatever.

Basically, the programs that you run everyday should be on Raptor. You have to prioritize the programs. I'm not you. I don't know what you run every day.

the only differences between the 74GB ADFD and the other 2 ADFD models are the capacity and price, since practical performance wont differ by any noticable amount between them. if 74GB is enough capacity for your OS and preferred applications, then id say its the right choice to make.

The price differential is not large enough between the 74G and the 150G to make the 74G a good choice anymore. I have the 74G and I think you will find it too small. Get your wallet out and buy the 150G.

Also, save a few bucks and forget the X model unless people will see your hard drives.

My friend got one and it was about $4.00 more at the time. I heard that they didn't dissipate heat quite as well but I think the difference is small. But your right the only thing it's good for is saying "I have the Raptor X"

I put everything on my Raptor 150GB HD, makes it simpler.

You must not have access to Newegg, the 150G is only $25 more than the 74G. In answer to your question, you will have enough room, as long as you pull the garbage to the 500G

i ordered my new computer from cyberpower
they dont have the 150gb raptor in stock soo i had to take the 74gb

Really the 74GB Raptor is faster than the 150GB in some benches. You can always get another 74GB Raptor and put them in raid 0.

Nah, I've got a 74G and access to a 150G in the exact same configuration. They are roughly the same.
