HDD Light solid when all cables are connected and using only 160GB drive, HDD light off when cable disconnected from board, no beeps in either setting, HDD Light solid and no bios when 40GB plugged in, HDD spins excessively fast upon startup. mobo power light on, reset cmos already, still no post or beeps, no output to monitor. Old p/s fried outside of computer while cleaning, replaced all stock parts into a new case with new p/s, and new hard drive. Any advice? i'd assume it was the p/s but its new and powering all with no problem

System Specs:

Gateway 500SE PC
Pentium 4 socket 478
1GB PC 3200
40GB HDD (old)
160GB HDD (new, unformatted)
Win XP
400W Generic PS (new)

Idk what the problem is, i can't even get to bios with a brand new hdd so that i can install xp. i dont smell any odors, and the cpu is not overheating, checked for excessive heat already. all fans spin, monitor works.

Try to unplug the optical drives from the system and then make sure that if the hard drive is an IDE that is connected to the Primary. Some computers won't boot unless this is the case. Also make sure the hdd's are either cs or master / slave.
