I have the following on my system.

1. 3.5" floppy
2. Hard drive
3. DVD-Rom
4. DVD-R/W
5. Vista Ultimate

What would be the recommended boot sequence. Thanks.

Hmmm....this is what I have now.

1. Floppy
2. DVD-rom
3. DVD-RW
4. HD

I'm afraid if I put the HD first and it crashes out then I won't be able to get to the other drives.

It really doesn't matter. Put first what you usually boot from and remove the rest alltogether. If you need to boot from another source hit the boot menu key (F8). Well I hope your BIOS supports that...

I would put the hard disk first as well. Otherwise, your computer will waste time lookint at the other devices for a bootable disk first which will take longer. Even more time if there are disks in the drive.

I have mine listed as HD first, then disabled the rest. This results in my PC not wasting time looking for bootable devices and a faster boot up to windows. If I have something bootable, all I need is to press F8 and select the appropriate bootup device: i.e. USB dongle, DVD-drive, etc.

The BIOS has nothing to do with your OS. While you copy your OS onto a HD your BIOS resides permanently on a chip on your Mainboard. You just tell your BIOS where to look for the OS...

LOL bios password.

If you put your FDD first it will read it every time you boot to check for a disk (and ware out the drive its self), your better off setting it to CDROM - C/HDD 0 and then whatever, and dont even think of worrying about crashes etc - you can always change the boot order etc and bios/board crashes - forget about recovery, its either auto (and asks for a cd or disk) or thats it ;)

it depends. If you always have a cd in your drive then it will slow down your bootup if it looks in there before looking in your HD. I would set your HD as #1 then change it later if you ever need to.
