Trying to run an older game, Hitman 2, and when I ran it for the first time I got a message from the nVidia drivers while the 2nd 3D company animation was playing (so pretty quick from start). It said it wasn't getting enough juice from the dedicated power connector and was dropping the quality settings.

All I could do was hit "OK". I closed down the game and ran it again. Played fine. No messages, even as I was in the actual game. All settings are maxed, except for filtering which is set to Trilinear.

I'm wondering if I'm playing under gimped settings now but just don't know it. Other than a precursor to a PSU dying, any idea what this error is for? And what it actually did to my settings?

Oh, and I have an Antec TruePower 430W if that helps anything.

My daughter's 6600gt did the same thing and some of the ram on the card went bad about a month or two later. We are prone to power spikes in my area. Have you noticed any kind of performance differences in your games since the incident?

Interesting. I really appreciate the feedback.

When the game starts up without this message, the in-game performance is fine and all the settings are still jacked up high. Seems to be a random thing. I believe the wiring in my place is poor and during the summer months we do get regular flucuations with ACs running. Not to mention the landlord has blown the building fuse on his own 3 times this summer while my PC was on. Nothing else was affected. We'll see I guess. Hopefully she'll hold together until I have the money to build a brand new system next year. :)

You do have the molex connector plugged in properly right? I'd pull it out and replug it again just o make sure it isn't a tad loose.
