So I recently upgraded my PC...I've got an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe w/ Intel E6600 and am running Windows XP SP2.
My problem is as follows: it takes me about 6mins to copy 700MB from a CD to my HD. My whole system seems to slow down and if, for example, I'm playing a song / video, it starts jumping like crazy.
I've read somewhere that it might have something to do with PIO / DMA settings? Is that correct?
I've got Type / PIO / DMA all set to 'Auto' in the BIOS.
In the Device Manager, I've looked at the Primary IDE Channel and the first device is running as PIO Only. I've tried changing it to DMA If Available but it doesn't pick it up. I've tried deleting the MasterIDCheckSum registry key as suggested in another forum so that Win Xp can pick it up - and it does - Ultra DMA 2. The only problem is, the system freezes when I put a CD in and then when I reset, it goes back to PIO.
