Sata mode xp error

ok my problem is i have an image built for sata compatability mode and i need it to work for ahci mode is there anyway to change the os without rebuilding from scrach

AHCI will work with SATA drives.

my problem is that if you change from compatabilty mode to ahci it screws up the os
im trying to figure out if its possible to just repair or do i have to rebuild from scratch

windows has built in AHCI drivers. It may take a windows repair, but shouldn't be too bad.
